Two Panthers on Hawkeye Ten first team

Seven Creston softball players earn league honors

Creston shortstop Gracie Hagie is one of six players chosen unanimously to the first team of All-Hawkeye Ten Conference softball announced Friday.

Joining Hagle as unanimous selections are Atlantic’s Alyssa Derby and Olivia Engler, Harlan’s Emily Brouse, Lewis Central’s Haley Bach and Kuemper Catholic’s Jordan Schwabe.

Also named to the first team from Creston was third baseman Nevaeh Randall.

Hagle batted .404 with eight doubles, two triples, five home runs and nine stolen bases while also considered one of the top infield defensive players in the conference. She drove in 28 runs. Randall was the team’s top power hitter with nine home runs and 40 RBIs while batting .423 with eight doubles and one triple. She also had six stolen bases.

Five other Creston players were honored either on the second team or honorable mention list. Making the second all-conference team were catcher Peyton Rice, pitcher Keely Coen and right fielder Morgan Driskell.

Rice, the lone senior among the Panther honorees, had 44 hits while batting .440 with three doubles, 17 RBIs and 21 stolen bases. Coen had a 15-8 pitching record with a 2.52 earned run average in 133.1 innings. She finished with 75 strikeouts and 23 walks. Driskell batted .372 with four doubles, four triples and two home runs while driving in 30 runs. She had nine stolen bases.

Receiving honorable mention were first baseman Halle Evans and center fielder Jersey Foote. Evans batted .352 with six doubles, 15 RBIs and four stolen bases. Foote, with outstanding range in center field as a defensive player, made her varsity debut as an eighth-grader this season with a .345 batting average, seven doubles one triple, one home run and 15 RBIs. She stole 15 bases.
