Creston wins one at Atlantic tournament

ATLANTIC - Creston softball went finished 1-2 Saturday at the Atlantic Tournament.

The team’s win was the first game it played, a 9-1 victory over Treynor.

Creston started scoring early with two runs in the first inning. Treynor’s lone run came in the second inning, but the Panthers responded with four runs in the third inning extending its lead to 6-1.

Gracie Hagle led Creston with two hits and two runs scored. Morgan Driskell scored a run and had two RBIs.

As a team, Creston had eight hits including two doubles. Creston was walked twice and had six strikeouts.

Keeley Coen pitched five innings for the Panthers and had two strikeouts. Treynor finished with four hits. Treynor struck out twice.

The Panthers were not able to keep the pace with Exira-EHK as it lost 6-4 in Creston’s second game Saturday. Both teams scored in the first inning but Exria-EHK scored three more in the second to take the lead. Creston scored another in the third to cut the deficit but Exhira-EHK would eventually have a 6-2 lead after five innings.

Creston scored twice in the sixth inning.

Driskell led Creston at the plate with a hit, which was a triple, and a RBI. As a team, Creston finished with eight hits. The Panthers were walked once and has 12 strikeouts.

Haylee Gillam pitched four innings for Creston. Taryn Fredrickson pitched two innings and struck out three. Exira-EHK fiished with 10 hits, all singles. They struck out three times and walked once.

The Panthers’ came up short in a 6-5 loss to Carroll in the team’s last game of the day.

Creston was able to cut the deficit to 6-5 by scoring two runs in the fifth, but did not any more in the last two innings of the game.

Carroll scored five runs between the first two innings as Creston was able to to respond by scoring two in the third to make Carroll’s lead 5-3.

Peyton Rice had three hits for Creston plus two runs scored and a stolen base. Driskell had a hit and a RBI. As a team, Creston had 10 hits including two doubles. The Panthers were walked once and struck out twice. Panther Keeley Coen threw six innings and struck out four.

As a team, Carroll had 11 hits and two of them were triples. Carroll walked once.

Creston jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning on the way to a 9-2 win Thursday, June 2 at Glenwood.

Glenwood was able to score two in the second, but Creston responded by adding three between the third and fourth innings. Creston finished the game with 11 hits including a home run and three doubles. The Panthers struck out five times. Peyton Rice had three hits, two stolen bases and three runs scored. Keely Coen had two hits and three RBIs.

Coen pitched the entire game and struck out four. Glenwood finished with nine hits including a triple and struck out four times.
