Burg medals, but Atlantic beats Creston boys on the links

ATLANTIC — Creston/O-M senior Colby Burg carded a 35 to be named medalist in a boys golf dual at Atlantic Golf and Country Club Tuesday. Atlantic won the dual with 155 strokes to Creston/O-M’s 173.

“This was a makeup dual from early in the season,” said Panther golf coach Jon Thomson. “Colby and Cole [Strider] are shooting well as we head into sectionals Friday at Winterset. Colby with medalist honors and Colby tied for second, they played a playoff hole for runner-up and Atlantic got that one.”

Strider carded a 38 on the day. Atlantic’s Braden Smith was runner-up medalist with 38 and Drey Newell for the Trojans also finished with 38. Rounding out Creston/O-M’s team scorecard were Kolby Hulett and Wiley Ray shooting 50s, Trey Chesnut a 57 and George Weis 58.

“It was a fun round for the boys and a great way to end the regular season,” Thomson said.
