Lenox’s Hoakison, Mount Ayr team win POI girls golf

ACKWORTH — Area golfers took the first three spots in the Pride of Iowa Conference Girls Golf Tournament Wednesday at Shady Oaks Golf Course.

Lenox senior Chelsey Hoakison won the tournament, posting a 103, one stroke ahead of second-place Linsie Barnes of Mount Ayr. East Union’s Kaylin Lack was third, two strokes over second place, with 106.

Fifth was Melaina Haley of Mount Ayr (110), sixth Nodaway Valley’s Cadee Firch (111) and seventh Abby Harper of East Union (112). Abbie Notz of Lenox (117) was ninth and Ashlyn Gutierrez of Nodaway Valley finished in a tie for 11th with 118.

Mount Ayr won the team race with a 458. Their other scores were Emmalee Schafer with 122, Mallory Weehler with 122, Hallee Stewart with 128 and Ally Shelley with 143.

Lenox was second with 459. In addition to Hoakison and Notz, the Tigers had Jordan England in 12th place with 119, Austen David in a tie for 13th with 120, Takota Cordell with 128 and Caitlyn Maynes with 142.

Third in the team race was East Union, with 470. In addition to Lack and Harper, the Eagles had Sara Collins carding a 122, Elizabeth Hadley turning in a 130, Averie Eckels a 150 and Layla Lopez a 177.

Southwest Valley was fourth, scoring a 513 as a team. The Timberwolves had Maggie Haer leading the way with 120 in a tie for 13th. Aubrey Boswell and Rebecca Wetzell were part of a five-way tie for 17th with 122. Lindsay Maurer finished out SWV’s scorecard with a 149.

Finishing out the team scoring was Wayne tied with SWV for fourth, Central Decatur in sixth and Bedford in seventh. Martensdale-St. Marys, Southeast Warren and Nodaway Valley did not register team scores.
