CRESTON — The Creston/O-M girls tennis team was dominant from start to finish in a 9-0 shutout of Chariton Tuesday at the Southwestern Community College courts.
The rescheduled meet, rained out last week, did not include any boys action Tuesday due to a conflict.
In nine singles and doubles matches, the Panthers yielded only six points by the Chargers. Five of the wins were 8-0 shutouts.
“Today was a great day for our tennis team,” Panther coach Kevin Cooper said. “We were able to get in a lot of matches, and were able to get a good team win. This is our busiest time of year, and to have a nice night to play was awesome.”
The day was a positive for development of several players on the Creston/O-M roster, thanks to six JV singles matches and eight doubles matches. The Panthers won 10 of the 14 JV matches.
“It was so great to have an opponent bring a full team of kids that wanted to play,” Cooper said. “Both Chariton’s JV and our JV kids got a chance to play a lot of matches tonight.”
Next action for the Panther girls is a match at Clarke on Friday and double dual on Saturday against Norwalk and Shenandoah at Norwalk.
The boys are home against Shenandoah on Thursday and again on Friday against Clarke, before the Hawkeye Ten Conference meet Monday at Denison.
