IPSWA all-state boys basketball teams released

No area players selected for 2020-21 season

The Iowa Print Sports Writers Association announced the 2021 all-state boys basketball team Tuesday.

The voting, which was held over the weekend on March 13, ended with no area players selected by the writers for the top players in the state across four classes.

Area competition selected to all-state was Ryan Blum of Glenwood (Class 3A first-team) and Trey Baker of Martensdale-St Marys (Class 1A first-team).

Blum and Baker were top players in the Hawkeye 10 and Pride of Iowa Conference, respectively. They were also the only players selected from each conference to all-state.

Blum finished the 2020-21 season the leading scorer in the Hawkeye 10 with 568 points. He was also the leading rebounder in the H-10 with 200 and was second in steals with 52. In a 66-54 win over Creston on Dec. 18, he led Glenwood in scoring with 37 points on 9 of 20 shooting (5-for-11 from 3-point range) with 15 rebounds. He followed up the double-double with another one over Creston, scoring 10 points with 15 rebounds in a Feb. 11 41-38 win over the Panthers.

Baker’s season put him fourth in the Pride of Iowa in scoring, trailing area players Jaixen Frost (Mount Ayr), Toby Bower (Nodaway Valley) and Keaton England (Lenox), respectively. Baker scored 320 points, had 158 rebounds, assisted 43 scored and swatted 22 shots. He was 51.4% from the field.

Blum was selected unanimously to the first-team of the Hawkeye 10. Baker was also selected unanimously by the Pride of Iowa’s first-team.
