Panthers place seven in first at home tournament
Creston/O-M JV wrestling had almost a dozen wrestlers finish in first place individually at Monday’s home tournament. All 13 teams did not score.
Christian Ahrens (105-107), Bryce Hull (119-125), Owen Henderson (122-127), Carter Henderson (131-134), Brennan Hayes (138-144), Tyson Stuart (140-145), Chris Aragon (152-157), Austin Seaton (159-172), Jagger Luther (177-191) and Quinten Fuller (200-220) each placed in first at the tournament.
The first-place finishers had a combined record of 28-2, with eight wrestlers going a perfect 3-0.
Creston 66, Red Oak 44
RED OAK – Creston beat Red Oak Monday night, winning 66-44.
Leading in scoring was Patrick Varner with 16 points. Derek Paup had 12 points as the only other player in double-digit scoring.
“Good defense and getting out in transition allowed us to get out to a 36-12 lead at halftime,” said JV coach Todd Jacobson.
Denison-Schleswig 58, Creston 46
Creston lost to Denison-Schleswig Friday night, 58-46.
The Panthers trailed by two at halftime at 28-26 and had the game slip out of their grasp in the second half.
“We gave up a lot of drives and offensive rebounds in the second half and were outscored 17-6 in the third quarter,” said Jacobson.
Clarinda 53, Creston 45
CLARINDA – Creston’s JV boys team lost to Clarinda 53-45 Tuesday, Jan. 5.
Leading in scoring for the Panthers was Varner with 15 points. Paup and Tony Davidson each had eight points.
“Tight game throughout,” said Jacobson. “We had a nine-point lead toward the end of the third and they switched to zone. We were not patient and were outscored 16-5 in the fourth quarter.”
Creston 41, Red Oak 36
Creston beat Red Oak Monday night, edging the Tigers 41-36.
Leading the way for the Panthers was Halle Evans, scoring 16 points on five field goals.
Nevaeh Randall scored 12 points and Keely Coen scored seven points.
Denison-Schleswig 46, Creston 29
Creston fell to Denison-Schleswig Friday night 46-29.
Randall led in scoring for the Panthers, racking up eight points. Evans scored seven points as the second highest total.
Creston 37, Clarinda 17
CLARINDA – The Creston JV girls beat Clarinda 37-17 Tuesday, Jan. 5.
Randall led in scoring with 15 points, nearly out-scoring the Cardinals.
Coen scored eight points, connecting from 3-point range twice.
