State basketball rankings

Two area girls basketball teams started the season ranked, and they remain as the only two News Advertiser area schools ranked.

Creston girls basketball remains in the top-15 after a 64-44 loss to now-Class 4A No. 6 Dallas Center-Grimes in the final game before the two-week layoff. The Panthers check in the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union rankings at No. 14 in Class 4A.

Nodaway Valley is the second area team to check in the top-15. The Wolverines are ranked No. 5 in Class 2A, remaining undefeated (7-0) throughout the first half of the season.

Girls rankings are compiled by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. The boys rankings shown below are from a statewide Associated Press poll of Iowa sportswriters:
