After two seasons at the helm of the men’s basketball program at Southwestern Community College (SWCC), Devin Kastrup, a Colorado Springs, Colorado native, is headed to Concordia, Kansas. Yesterday he was named head coach of the Cloud County Community College basketball program.
Kastrup, a former Southwestern Spartan himself, was named head coach at Southwestern in August 2019. During his first year with the Spartans, he tripled the win total from the previous season. Kastrup and his team earned a Region XI championship appearance following the 2020-21 season, finishing as the Region XI runners-up. The Spartans ended this year’s tournament run with three student-athletes recognized on the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) All-Region Teams.
“These young men just beat the national champions and the third-place team this season; this program is built for success,” stated Doug North, SWCC athletic director. “During the majority of Coach Kastrup’s time here, we were in the midst of a pandemic, and yet by looking at the accomplishments of his teams, no one would know that,”
North said a nationwide search for a new head basketball coach will begin immediately.
“We are happy about the strides the program made the last two years and we want to ensure an expedient and seamless transition so we can continue to build the program,” North stated. “We all wish coach the absolute best of luck. He will forever be a Spartan.”
