Baker on first team headlines Spartans on all-region

Three other from Southwestern also honored

CRESTON — The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference announced its Division II all-region teams in womens and mens basketball this week. Four Southwestern women and three men nabbed honors at the conclusion of the season.

Baker leads on first team

Brielle Baker, a 5-foot-7 sophomore guard from Creston, was named a first team selection. She averaged 14.7 points and eight rebounds per game this season for the Spartans. She was 80% at the free throw line and made 34.2% of her shots from the field.

Others with Baker on the first team were DMACC’s Jada Powell and Grace Flanagan, Iowa Central’s Neveah GAlloway and Isabell West, Kirkwood’s Tatiana Hodges, Kortney Drake, Kemara Watson and Ashley Tull, and NIACC’s Kourtney Manning.

Two make second team, one on third

Kaylynn Tucker and Alyssa Morris both were honored as second team all-region selections.

A product of Omaha Northwest, Tucker averaged 13.2 points per game this season and was a 64.7% free throw shooter.

Morris, a 5-foot-10 forward from Odessa, Missouri, was an outstanding free throw shooter, making 87.9% of her shots from the foul line, and averaging 14.1 points and 7.7 rebounds per game in all.

On third team was Whynter Waterhouse-Brennan, who averaged 11.4 points per game.
