Mikkelsen shatters his own shot put school record

ATLANTIC — Monday at the Bruce Henderson Invitational, Creston sophomore Tom Mikkelsen not only won the shot put, he also shattered his own school record in the event.

His previous best was a mark of 56-04, but Monday he threw a foot farther, landing a 57-04.5.

The mark is the fifth best among all classes in Iowa and fourth-best in Class 3A, a loaded class for shot put.

Thursday the Panthers host the Hawkeye 10 championships. Mikkelsen is the defending shot put champion.
