SWCC baseball names assistant coach

DATELINE –

Jake Brewer was announced Tuesday as Southwestern Community College’s graduate assistant baseball coach for the Spartans’ upcoming season.

Brewer is a 2021 graduate of Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in exercise science. He comes to Southwestern with a variety of playing and coaching experience. Since the summer of 2017, he has been a coach, general manager, and strength and conditioning intern for various baseball programs with various assigned tasks.

Brewer is excited to be able to gain coaching experience while he working to attain his master’s degree.

“The graduate assistant baseball coaching job at Southwestern Community College is the perfect fit for me to grow on and off the field,” explained Brewer. “I get to attend a great university while continuing to learn as a coach from a great coaching staff.”

Spartan head baseball coach Jordan Camp considers it a win for his program as well. This is the first year Southwestern has added graduate assistantship positions in athletics.

“I am excited about the addition of Jake,” says Camp. “What an opportunity for us and him; we get a huge addition to the baseball program, and he gets to continue his education. He’s a young guy with a lot to prove, and we are ready for school to begin.”

Brewer will be on campus sometime in August and fall semester begins at Southwestern on Aug. 25.
