Murray to finish busy week at Creston tournament

Murray takes its momentum to Moulton-Udell tonight after shutting out Mormon Trail 12-0 Thursday.

Murray plays on Saturday at Southwestern vs Clarinda and Creston in Creston’s annual tournament.

Calleigh Klein threw three perfect innings for Murray.  She faced nine batters, striking out eight.

Murray had nine different girls with hits.  Murray got three runs in the first, four in the second, and five in the third inning.

Leading hitters for Murray were: Chloe Church went 2-3 and scored twice. Jayda Chew had one hit and two RBIs. Emma Decker had two RBIs. Leksi Gannon had a hit. Zoey Black had three RBIs. Brooke Shannon had a RBI. Teryn Shields had a stolen base. Jalie Baumfalk finished with a double and run scored. Calleigh Klein had a hit. Lyla Riemenschneider scored two runs. Jaden Lynn had two hits and three RBIs.

On Wednesday, Murray lost 13-4 at #6 ranked Southeast Warren.

Southeast Warren jumped out early and had a 6-0 lead after the first inning.  Southeast Warren got their six runs on five hits, two walks and Murray had three errors.  Southeast Warren tacked on three runs in the bottom of the third to take a 9-0 lead after three innings.

Murray scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning.  Zoey Black singled, Brooke Shannon walked and Jalie Baumfalk singled to load the bases.  Calleigh Klein and Jaden Lynn singles drove in the two runs.  Southeast Warren responded with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 11-2.

Both teams tacked on two runs in the fifth to make the final 13-4.  For Murray, Jayda Chew walked, Emma Decker reached on an error, and Zoey Black singled to load the bases with no outs.  Teryn Shields drove in two with a single to right field to end the Murray scoring.

Kayla Holmes went the distance for Southeast Warren to pick up the victory.

Murray’s leading hitter was Zoey Black who went 2-3. Jayda Chew, Teryn Shields, Jalie Baumfalk, CalleighKlein and Jaden Lynn each had a hit. Shields had two RBIs. Klein and Lynn each had one RBI.

Moravia defeated Murray 7-4 Tuesday. Calleigh Klein pitched the entire game for Murray and took the loss. She gave up 12 hits, two walks and struck out two

Anaya Keith got the win for Moravia throwing five innings and giving up 1 run.

Moravia had two big innings getting four runs in the fourth and three in the bottom of the fifth.  The other 4 innings they had a maximum of 4 batters.

Murray got a run in the third and three more in the sixth on a bases loaded double by Chloe Church to cut Moravia’s lead to 7-4 but could not rally in the seventh inning.  Seven different Mustangs had hits but missed opportunities to drive runners home. 

“Our defense played well tonight but we need someone to step up and  make plays and get hits at key times to find a way to win these close games,” said Murray coach Keith Shields.

Leading hitters for Murray were Calleigh Klein who went 2-3 and Chloe Church who finished 2-4  and three RBIs. Jaden Lynn, Black, Emma Decker, Shields and Brooke Shannon eah had a hit. Black and Shannon each had a RBI. Decker and Shields had stolen bases.

On Monday Mount Ayr took out Murray 15-4.

Mount Ayr hit the ball well, getting 15 hits on the night. The Raiders got three in both the top of first and top of the second to take a 6-0 lead, highlighted by an Addy Reynolds 2-run home run in the second.

Murray responded with three in the bottom of the second to cut the lead to 6-3.

In the top of the third, the Raiderettes sent nine to the plate and got five more runs to lead 11-3. Murray got its final run in the bottom of the fourth when Calleigh Klein singled in Jalie Baumfalk.

Mount Ayr tallied four in the top of the fifth to push the final score to 15-4.

Zoey Larson got the win for Mt. Ayr pitching five innings with 8 strikeouts..

Teryn Shields took the loss for Murray, going five innings with four strikeouts.

Jalie Baumfalk had two singles and scored two runs for Murray. Jaden Lynn had two singles and a RBI. Calleigh Klein, Brooke Shannon, Chloe Church and Emma Decker each had a hit. Klein and Church had a RBI. Church and Emma Decker each hit a double.

Murray travels to Moulton-Udell on Friday night for Bluegrass Conference action.
