Colleen Reed, 50, of Prescott, was taken into custody 9 p.m. April 7 on a Union County warrant for the charge of OWI, second offense. Reed was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to Creston Police reports, at approximately 1:53 a.m. March 1 a 2014 Chevrolet Impala was stopped at Smith Street and Highway 34 for failing to dim its lights. Contact was made with the driver, identified as Reed, who appeared very nervous. Reed had bloodshot, watery eyes and had raised heat bumps on the back of her tongue.
Reed made admissions to smoking marijuana at a friend’s house approximately 30 minutes prior to being stopped. She consented to field sobriety and ARIDE testing and showed numerous clues and indicators of impairment. Reed also consented to provide a urine sample for chemical testing which was sent to the Iowa DCI lab.
On March 30, the toxicology report from the sample was received by the department. The report showed a positive screen for amphetamines, tricyclics and marijuana metabolites. There was also a confirmed presence of methamphetamine, hydroxyzine, amitriptyline, nortiptyline and lamotrigine.
Reed was previously convicted of an OWI in 2019 in Union County.
At approximately 8:55 p.m. April 7, officers stopped the same vehicle as it is known to be driven by Reed, who had an active warrant. During the course of the stop and subsequent arrest, Reed gave officers permission to search the vehicle. A methamphetamine pipe and several white crystals were located in a hidden compartment behind a display screen in the car. Both items tested positive for methamphetamine.
Reed admitted to knowing the items were in the vehicle and said she had forgotten to take them out.
Reed was transported to the Union County Jail where she was released from after posting $2,300 cash or surety bond.
