Adair County man found dead after house explosion

The body of a 51-year-old Adair County man was discovered after a house explosion south of Greenfield.

According to an Adair County Sheriff’s Office report, at 1:15 p.m. Feb. 26, the Fontanelle and Greenfield fire departments, Adair County Sheriff’s Office and Adair County ambulance responded to 2597 Marion Ave. for an apparent house explosion.

When first responders arrived at the residence, they discovered the body of a deceased male, identified as John David Christensen, said to be the sole occupant of the home.

The cause of the explosion was unclear and is under investigation. The Iowa State Fire Marshal’s Office has been requested to assist.

Christensen’s body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny for autopsy.

The Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Agency assisted with the incident.
