Afton Police: Afton man found with 25 grams of methamphetamine during traffic stop

Nicholas B. Crenshaw, 39, of Afton, was taken into custody Jan. 14, on the charges of controlled substance violation, keeping premises or vehicle for controlled substance violation, possession of a controlled substance - marijuana, first offense and possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine, first offense.

According to an Afton Police report, at approximately 10:29 p.m. a 2006 Ford Five Hundred was stopped for a traffic violation at Pierce and Railroad streets in Afton. Contact was made with the driver, identified as Crenshaw, who had a suspended license.

A police K-9 was deployed on the vehicle and gave a positive alert to the odor of narcotics. Crenshaw denied entry to the car and withheld the keys from officers. During a probable cause search of the car several items of drug paraphernalia including a scale and pipe. A bag of a green leafy substance appearing to be marijuana was also found in the car. When Crenshaw was patted down, a plastic bag containing approximately 25 grams of a white crystalline substance, which later field tested positive for methamphetamine, was found.

Crenshaw was transported to the Union County Jail and held on $29,000 cash or surety bond.
