Police Line

Liliana C. Castro, 49, of Lenox, was taken into custody 1:50 p.m. Jan. 9, in the 1300 block of North Cherry Street on the charges of public intoxication and interference with official acts.

According to a Creston Policer report, at approximately 1:45 p.m. an intoxicated female, later identified as Castro, was reportedly trying to jump out of a Dodge Durango near Townline and Cherry streets. Before officers arrived, they were notified Castro had exited the vehicle and left on foot. She was located in the 1300 block of North Cherry Street.

Castro told officers she was a passenger in the Durango and that her husband was driving she and her children to Des Moines for a medical appointment. She said she drank a bottle of tequila the night before and got a Smirnoff at Casey’s North to help with her hangover. Her husband got mad and threw the Smirnoff away because Castro was already visibly intoxicated and he didn’t want her to drink in the vehicle. This upset Castro and she got out of the Durango.

Castro had slurred speech and smelled strongly of alcohol. Her emotions were up and down consistent with someone under the influence of alcohol. She refused to provide a breath sample for testing because she said she would “test positive.” Castro was told to place her hands behind her back but refused to do so and continuously pulled away from officers while they attempted to place her in handcuffs.

Castro was transported to the Union County Jail where she was released from after posting $600 cash or surety bond.
