Creston Police: Two underage drinkers charged with OWI

Amanda K. Sauer, 38, of Creston, was taken into custody 11 a.m. Dec. 31, at her residence on the charge of attempted burglary, third degree.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 10 a.m. Sauer went to an apartment in the 800 block of West Adams Street and pounded on the door until a female answered. Sauer threatened the female with physical violence. The female and her boyfriend tried to close the door and attempted to push Sauer away as she tried to gain entry to the porch. This caused the door frame to be cracked and the hinge screws to be pulled out.

Sauer admitted to going to the apartment and to there being an altercation.

Sauer was cited and released on a summons to appear.

Jason A. Lohoff, 52, of Creston, was taken into custody 7:37 p.m. Dec. 31, at Adams Street and Sumner Avenue on a Union County warrant charging him with nine counts of theft, fifth degree.

According to Creston Police reports between Sept. 3 and Dec. 12, Lohoff was observed on Walmart security footage taking multiple items without paying for them and switching price bar codes of items to pay less for items.

On Sept. 3 Lohoff switched bar codes on items and paid $15.44 for rock lights sold for $52.39; On Oct. 24, he concealed $64.20 in Pokemon cards and left the store without paying for them; Oct. 27 he left the store with $25.65 in personal hygiene items that were not paid for and switched a bar code causing him to pay $5.91 for a $10.41 food item; Nov. 1 he paid $29.98 for a heater priced at $73.83; Nov. 30 Lohoff paid $7.84 for $119.86 worth of meat; Dec. 2 $64.50 of meat was purchased by Lohoff who paid $6.62; Dec. 3 Lohoff left the store with Pokemon cards and a pet item valued at $49.93 that were not paid for and Dec. 12 $20.82 in meat was purchased for $7.08.

Lohoff was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from after posting $2,700 cash or surety bond.

Tanner J. Richardson, 19, of Tingley, was taken into custody 1:48 a.m. Jan. 1, in the 600 block of South Bureau Street on the charges of OWI, first offense, reckless driving and driving under suspension.

According to Creston Police report, officers observed a 2004 Chevrolet Impala accelerating quickly and running stop signs. As a traffic stop was initiated, the Impala failed to navigate a curve and crashed into a yard. The driver, identified as Richardson, was removed from the Impala by officers and detained. Richardson told officers he had not drank any alcohol but the odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected coming from his person.

Richardson was transported to the Union County Law Enforcement Center where he consented to field sobriety testing and showed multiple clues of impairment. He refused PBT and to provide a specimen for chemical testing.

Richardson was found to have a suspended driver’s license.

Richardson was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from after posting $1,300 cash or surety bond.

Austin A. Jones, 31, of Creston, was taken into custody 8:50 a.m. Jan. 1, in the 800 block of Laurel Street on the charges of domestic abuse assault, third or subsequent offense; harassment, first degree; three counts domestic abuse assault impeding air/blood flow causing bodily injury and three counts contempt - violation of a protective/no contact order. Jones also had an active Union County warrant for the charges of ongoing criminal conduct, theft, first degree and theft, second degree.

According to Creston Police reports, between Nov. 26 and Dec. 22, Jones physically assaulted a victim on at least three different occasions. Jones tackled the victim to the ground causing the victim’s jaw to pop out of place, leaving the victim unable to speak for multiple days, bit the victim and applied pressure to the victim’s throat/neck and punched the victim in the back of the head causing the victim to lose consciousness.

Medical attention was sought by the victim and determined they had suffered a concussion from Jones punching the victim’s head. Jones also head-butted the victim and choked them, causing them to be unable to breathe. A protection order was in place against Jones with the victim being the protected party during the times of these assaults.

On Jan. 1, Jones contacted the victim and sent messages threatening to kill them as well as several other texts threatening in nature. Between 4 and 5 a.m. Jones went to the victim’s apartment to attempt to locate a hidden key and sent the victim a picture of the apartment showing he was there waiting for the victim. Before 9 a.m. Jones went back to the apartment while the victim was asleep and stole a spare key without the victim’s knowledge. While there, Jones spoke to the victim’s minor child.

A car believed to be operated by Jones was observed in front of the victim’s apartment. As the car left the parking lot, a traffic stop was conducted and Jones was taken into custody on a violation of a court order and on outstanding Union County warrants.

On Sept. 22 a theft of an enclosed trailer from near 190th Street and High School Drive in Afton was reported. GPS location from the trailer showed it was moved from its location 2:38 a.m. Sept. 20 to 148th Street and Kingfisher Avenue, where it was recovered from. A significant amount of tools were taken from the trailer valued over $10,000. On Oct. 25 a search warrant was executed at an Afton residence where a large amount of stolen property was recovered from this theft.

Jones and an accomplice had attempted to facilitate the sale of some of then stolen tools. On Nov. 17 a search warrant was executed on a 2005 Ford Expedition belonging to Jones and at a shed in the 900 block of North Sycamore Street. Stolen property was seized from the vehicle and shed, some of which was identified by the owners of the trailer and tools as the items taken in September.

On June 8, American Homes reported a tool theft from an enclosed trailer in the 100 block of North Walnut Street. A list of tools, valued at more than $1,500 but less than $10,000 was provided to law enforcement. A significant amount of stolen property from this theft was seized during search warrants served Nov. 17 on Jones’ vehicle and shed.

Jones was transported to the Union County Jail and held on $62,000 cash or surety bond.

Jordan R. Humphreys, 33, of Creston, was taken into custody 6:55 p.m. Jan. 1, at the Union County Law Enforcement Center on the charge of animal at large.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 4:30 p.m. a dog belonging to Humphreys got loose and bit someone in the arm while they were walking on Elm Street. The bite broke the victim’s skin.

Humphreys was cited and released on a summons to appear.

Wyatt G. L. Wheeler, 18, of Lorimor, was taken into custody 12:11 a.m. Jan. 2 at Highway 34 and Osage Street on the charge of OWI, first offense.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 11:41 p.m. Jan. 1, officers observed a 2005 Ford F250 turn east onto Highway 34 from Sumner Avenue. As the truck turned, it accelerated rapidly, causing a large cloud of black smoke to come from its exhaust. While behind the truck, officers observed the driver’s side tires on the centerline twice and the truck traveling above the posted speed limit.

A traffic stop was conducted and contact was made with the driver, identified as Wheeler, who had bloodshot, watery eyes. Wheeler did not have any identification or vehicle registration with him. While sitting in the patrol car, officers detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Wheeler’s person and observed his speech to be slurred.

Initially Wheeler denied drinking any alcohol. He consented to field sobriety testing and showed numerous validated clues of impairment. A PBT produced a result over .08%. Wheeler then said he had been drinking at his farm in Lorimor.

Wheeler was transported to the Union County Law Enforcement Center where he consented to provide a breath sample for chemical testing. The result indicated his BAC to be .176%.

Wheeler was taken to Union County Jail where he was released from after posting $1,000 cash or surety bond.
