Police requested a driver be reexamined for license privileges after a two-vehicle accident in Creston Thursday.
According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 8 p.m. a female, later identified as Jean L. Craig, 77, of Afton, was reported by an employee at the Casey’s General Store on Sumner Avenue, who was concerned about her. The employee said Craig had been in the store, seemed disoriented and had mentioned being involved in an accident.
Officers observed Craig backing out of a parking space at Casey’s, driving a 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander with front-end damage. Craig told officers someone had hit her, the drivers had exchanged information and the other vehicle left. Craig did not seem impaired or in need of medical attention and was allowed to leave.
A few minutes later, Rachel M. Claiser, 46, of Creston, reported she had been hit by an older female who left the scene of the accident near Dollar General.
Officers observed Claiser’s vehicle, a 2014 Hyundai Tucson, to have extensive rear-end damage. Claiser told officers she was northbound on Taylor Street, stopped to turn into the Dollar General parking lot, when she was hit from behind by Craig. Claiser said she spoke to Craig, who asked if they should exchange information, but left when Claiser pulled into the parking lot.
A Union County deputy made contact with Craig at her home in Afton and gathered her vehicle and insurance information after the accident.
Damage to the Outlander was estimated at $3,000 and damage to the Tucson was estimated at $2,000.
Officers are requesting Craig be reexamined due to the sequence of events during and after the accident.
