Creston Police: Police charge woman for OWI at the elementary school

Amanda A. Hensley, 40, of Creston, was taken into custody 7:03 p.m. Dec. 8, in the 800 block of Academic Avenue on the charge of OWI, first offense.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 6:13 p.m. a concerned citizen reported a female, identified as Hensley, who was intoxicated driving with her children in the car.

Officer’s located Hensley’s vehicle, a 2015 Dodge Durango, in the Creston Elementary School parking lot. With assistance from school administration and staff, officers were able to locate Hensley and speak with her. Throughout the conversation, officers observed multiple signs of impairment and she admitted to drinking two beers before driving children to the school.

Hensley consented to field sobriety testing and showed numerous validated clues of impairment and consented to ARIDE testing, also showing various indicators of impairment during those tests.

Hensley refused a PBT at the scene. She was transported to the Union County Law Enforcement Center where she refused the request to provide a breath sample for chemical testing.

During a search of Hensley’s purse, which she had with her in the school, a cup containing alcohol, which Hensley admitted to be Hawkeye Vodka, was found. Hensley brought the the drink into the school as well.

Hensley was transported to the Union County Jail where she was released from after posting $1,000 cash or surety bond.
