Valerie A. Cross, 40, of Greenfield, was taken into custody 5:37 p.m. Dec. 3, at the Union County Law Enforcement Center on a Union County warrant for the charge of violation of probation.
According to an Iowa Department of Correctional Services report, Cross was convicted of criminal mischief, third degree in Union County and on Nov. 21, 2024, was sentenced to 180 days in jail. The sentence was suspended and Cross was placed on probation for one year.
Cross is believed to have violated the terms of her probation in the following ways:
Despite numerous directives by probation to set up a payment plan or pay in full, Cross continues to owe Union County. On Aug. 14, Cross failed to report to a scheduled office visit with probation and after making no contact with her probation officer to reschedule, an appointment was set for Sept. 4, which she also failed to report to. Cross was to have an updated substance abuse evaluation at the August appointment and has not provided an updated evaluation as directed.
On Aug. 6, a urinalysis was requested from Cross, which tested positive for methamphetamine. She denied any use, and her sample was not sufficient for lab verification due to the small amount provided. She also provided samples on June 26 and June 12 that were positive for methamphetamine and was unable to provide a sample on request July 24.
Cross was transported to the Adams County Jail and held on $2,000 cash or surety bond.
