Shawn G. Wolverton, 46, of Atlantic, was taken into custody 7:21 p.m. Nov. 22, in the 2000 block of Pinewood Avenue in Greenfield on the charges of possession of a controlled substance, third or subsequent offense and possession of paraphernalia.
According to an Adair County report, 5:12 p.m Nov. 22, an unresponsive male, later identified as Wolverton, was reported in a 2024 Hyundai Kona, sitting in the middle of Pinewood Avenue.
When deputies arrived, they observed Adair County Ambulance staff at the driver’s window of the Kona, knocking on the window to wake Wolverton up. The car was still running and in gear. Wolverton woke up and drove forward a few feet before coming to a stop. EMS reached through the driver’s side window and put the vehicle in park and shut it off.
Wolverton was acting strangely, bouncing around the vehicle. He was asked to exit the car and was still trying to reach through the back driver’s side window and pulling away from deputies.
Wolverton appeared to be under the influence of methamphetamine by his exaggerated movements and mood swings. While standing at the driver’s side window of the Kona, deputies observed a sunglass case near the center console inside the Kona. The case was partially open and a methamphetamine pipe was visible inside.
The vehicle was searched, and inside of the black case was a methamphetamine pipe and a small bag with methamphetamine inside.
At the jail, Wolverton admitted to using methamphetamine and possessing it. A check of his criminal history showed he has been charged and convicted of possession of a controlled substance in 2012 in Polk County, in 2015 in Polk County and in Adair County in 2015.
Wolverton was transported to the Adair County Jail and held on $5,000 cash or surety bond.
