A 21-year-old Creston man has been charged with three felonies and two misdemeanors following a Wednesday incident in Creston.
Jayden Peavler was taken into custody Oct. 30, on the charges of kidnapping, first degree, a Class A felony; robbery, first degree, a Class B felony; assault while participating in a felony, a Class C felony and obstruction of emergency communication and interference with official acts, both simple misdemeanors.
According to Creston Police, at approximately 10:32 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, officers responded to reported robbery and assault after a Union County deputy found a juvenile female in the roadway near South Sumner Avenue and Jefferson Street. The juvenile appeared injured and in distress. She told deputies she had jumped from a moving vehicle to escape an assault by the driver of the vehicle.
An investigation into the incident identified Peavler has the driver. The victim stated she had met with Peavler regarding the sale of a personal item, which Peavler attempted to forcibly take from her. When the victim tried to contact police, Peavler allegedly assaulted her and accelerated the vehicle when the victim attempted to get out.
The victim jumped from the vehicle and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Peavler was located by police Thursday morning and taken into custody. He is being held in the Union County Jail on a $530,000 cash-only bond.
The victim was evaluated by emergency medical personnel and treated for her injuries at Greater Regional Health.
