Austin A. Jones, 31, of Creston, was taken into custody 7:13 p.m. Oct. 10, at his residence three Union County warrants for the charges of criminal mischief, fifth degree; harassment, second degree; failure to affix drug tax stamp and a controlled substance violation.
According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 2:12 p.m. June 16, a 1999 Dodge Dakota registered to a barred driver, was stopped at Fremont and Oak streets. Jones was a passenger in the vehicle.
A Stuart Police K-9 was deployed and gave a positive alert to the odor of narcotics. A probable cause search was conducted and approximately 59 grams of a substance which field-tested positive for methamphetamine was found in a magnetic box on the floorboard of the backseat. During interviews with Jones and the driver, both denied ownership of the narcotics.
At approximately 8:41 p.m. Sept. 29, Jones called a victim and made statements that he was going to harm her. Jones demanded the victim open the door to her residence more than once. The victim refused to let Jones in and audibly told him “no.” Jones made other statements including he was going to “snap” and things would get “tore up.” He also stated he was going to break a key off in the victim’s door if he was not let in.
The entire phone call was recorded and officers identified the male voice to be Jones. A photograph was produced showing a key broke off in the victim’s door.
Jones was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from after posting $31,000 cash or surety bond.

Amber N. Torres, 40, of Creston, was taken into custody 10:48 p.m. Oct. 11, in the 300 block of North Spruce Street on the charge of assault causing bodily injury.
According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 9:45 p.m. Torres went to a Sycamore Street residence to speak with her daughter. Torres was banging on the door and screaming. She was told her daughter was safe in the home which made Torres mad, and she continued to bang on the door.
The victim opened the door and told Torres she needed to go home. Torres pulled the victim’s hair and hit her. Another person at the residence seperated the two but got hit in the chin. The victim had scratches and a red mark on the back of her neck and scratches on her right hand and right knee.
Torres was transported to the Union County Jail where she was released from after posting $1,000 cash or surety bond.

Joshua G. Sweat, 34, of Creston, was taken into custody 12:22 a.m. Oct. 12, at his residence on the charges of possession of a controlled substance – marijuana, first offense and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 11:50 p.m. Oct. 11, officers responded to a call at Sweat’s residence. While speaking with Sweat and others in the garage, officers observed a marijuana pipe and a bag of a green, leafy substance consistent with marijuana in plain view. Sweat took ownership of both items.
He was transported to the Union County Jail and held on $1,000 cash or surety bond.

Noah A. Young, 26, of Creston, was taken into custody 1:41 p.m. Oct. 12, in the 600 block of West Montgomery Street on a Union County warrant for the charge of failure to appear on the original charge of theft, fifth degree. He was additionally charged with interference with official acts.
According to Union County District Court documents, Young was ordered to appear in court July 22 for a status conference on the original charge and did not.
According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 1:38 p.m. Oct. 12 officers made contact with Young in an alley after confirming he had an active warrant. While speaking with Young, officers told him he had a warrant and told him not to run because he would be caught.
Young then ran away from officers on foot and jumped into the back of a stranger’s truck before being taken into custody.
Young was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from on his own recognizance on a promise to appear after his initial appearance.

Colleen A. Reed, 49, of Creston, was taken into custody 12:26 p.m. Oct. 12, in the 400 block of New York Avenue on the charge of possession of paraphernalia.
According to a Creston Police report, a 2019 Chevrolet Impala was stopped for having an obstructed view. Contact was made with the driver, identified as Reed. Reed admitted to having a methamphetamine pipe in the center console of the vehicle, which was located by officers. The pipe contained residue that field-tested positive for methamphetamine.
Reed was cited and released at the scene on a summons to appear.
