Accident: Improper turn leads to two-vehicle accident

Accident Report

No injuries were reported Friday in a two-vehicle accident in Creston.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 6:15 a.m. a 2004 Toyota Sienna, driven by William T. Lewis, 89, of Carson was northbound on Sumner Street turning east onto Adams Street, when it struck a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Anthony A. Anderson, 22, of Creston.

Lewis told officers he believed a car was in his way of making the turn, so he made a wide turn and struck the westbound Silverado that was stationary at the red light.

Anderson told officers there was a vehicle in front of the Sienna but no vehicles were parked on the side of the road interfering with the Sienna’s ability to properly turn or cause need to make a wide turn.

Police requested a driver’s license reexamination of Lewis as a result of the accident, citing possible eyesight issues and age-related factors that could have impaired his ability to maintain control of the vehicle while turning.

Damage to the Sienna was estimataed at $5,000 and damage to the Silverado was estimated at $3,000.
