Chad S. Cozad, 35, of Creston, was taken into custody 10:56 a.m. Aug. 8, at the Union County Law Enforcement Center on a Union County warrant for failure to serve jail sentence on the original charges of OWI, first offense,
According to a Union County Jail report, Cozad was sentenced on the original charge and ordered to serve two days in jail within seven days of July 18. Cozad did not report to jail as ordered.
Cozad was transported to the Union County Jail and held until the balance of his original sentence was completed.

Lela A. Churchwell, 46, of Creston, was taken into custody 8:44 p.m. Aug. 8, in the 1500 block of North Lincoln Street on the charges of disorderly conduct - loud raucous noise, interference with official acts and public intoxication.
According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 8:30 p.m. an intoxicated female, later identified as Churchwell, was reportedly pulling and kicking doors at an apartment complex. Witnesses stated Churchwell was yelling at people and had even jumped on a car as it attempted to drive away.
A witness said she got into a black car, which pulled into a parking space while officers were at the complex. Churchwell was identified as the passenger in the vehicle. While speaking with officers at the car window, the odor of a consumed alcoholic beverage was detected coming from her person. She was observed to have slurred speech and watery eyes. When asked how much she had to drink, Churchwell said not enough. Churchwell refused a PBT.
While placing Churchwell in handcuffs, she pulled away from officers and refused to put her feet into the patrol car which caused officers to have to pull her into vehicle from the opposite side. Churchwell yelled at officers while being read her Miranda Rights and during radio transmissions.
Churchwell was cited and released on a summons to appear.

Trisha J. Johnston, 41, of Creston, was taken into custody 10:30 p.m. Aug. 9, in the alley behind the 500 block of Wyoming Avenue on the charges of operating without interlock and possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine, first offense.
According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 10:04 p.m. a 2010 Mazda M3 was stopped by police. Johnston was identified as the driver of the car. Johnston is required to have an interlock device installed in any vehicle she operates and there was not one in the Mazda. While providing officers with her vehicle and license information, Johnston was visibly shaking. She told officers she was nervous because she usually gets arrested when she is pulled over.
Creston Police Department K-9 Olga was deployed for an open-air sniff around the Mazda and gave a positive alert for the odor of narcotics. A probable cause search was conducted and produced two baggies of an unknown powder substance, one found in Johnston’s purse and the other found in the backseat of the Mazda. Both baggies field-tested positive for methamphetamine.
Johnston was transported to the Union County Jail where she was released from on after posting an unknown bond.

Dakota S. Gaulden, 34, of Creston, was taken into custody 1:16 a.m. Aug. 10, at Howard and Maple streets on the charges of public intoxication and disorderly conduct - loud raucous noise.
According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 1:03 a.m. a male, who was possibly intoxicated, was reported laying on the ground near the intersection yelling. Officers located the man, identified as Gaulden, who was still laying in the intersection. When he saw officers, he got up and sat on the curb.
Gaulden told officers he was just trying to get home and proceeded to tell them about going to the store hours earlier for groceries. While speaking with Gaulden, the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected coming from his person. Gaulden consented to a PBT which indicated his BrAC to be .165%.
When Gaulden was taken into custody he began yelling at law enforcement and made statements about wanting to fight with a deputy who was assisting.
Gaulden was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from on his own recognizance on a promise to appear after his initial court appearance.

Jacob A. Weller, 20, of Creston, was taken into custody 8:34 a.m. Aug. 10, at his residence on a Union County warrant for the charge of child endangerment - bodily injury.
According to a Creston Police report, June 26 into June 27 Weller knowingly and intentionally acted in a manner that created a substantial risk to an infant child’s physical, mental or emotional health or safety resulting in bodily injury.
The mother of the child took the infant to the emergency room at Greater Regional Health, where the infant was transferred to Blank Children’s Hospital due to his injuries. Medical staff located multiple bruises over the infants back, chest and extremities of various healing stages.
During an interview with law enforcement and the Department of Health and Human Services July 21, Weller admitted to repeatedly pinching the infant during the overnight hours of June 26 into June 27 because he was frustrated from the infant not sleeping well.
The infant’s mother woke up Weller the morning of June 27, inquiring about the fresh bruises, but Weller didn’t believe they were serious and went back to sleep. The mother then took the infant to the hospital to be seen. Between June 27 and July 21, Weller repeatedly denied any wrongdoing to the mother of the child and provided various possibilities about what could have caused the bruising. Weller was the only person having custody and control over the infant when the injuries occurred.
More charges are pending on this case.
Weller was transported to the Union County Jail and held on $5,000 cash or surety bond.

William J. Long, 53, of Creston, was taken into custody 11:11 p.m. Aug. 10, at Adams and Lincoln streets on the charges of operating without an interlock device and OWI, second offense. He was cited for driving on the wrong side of a two-lane highway and open container.
According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 11 p.m. a 2013 Ford F150 was observed weaving within its lane near Spruce and Adams streets. The truck continued westbound on Adams across Sumner Avenue and drove on the double yellow divided line. Near the intersection of Lincoln and Adams streets, the truck drifted almost all the way over to the curb of the opposite lane of traffic.
A traffic stop was conducted and as the truck pulled over it hit the curb with its front passenger tire. Contact was made with the driver, identified as Long, who had the odor of a consumed alcoholic beverage coming from his person. Long was observed to have slurred speech, bloodshot, watery eyes and an open container was observed on the passenger floorboard of the truck.
When told the reason for being stopped, Long became argumentative and noncompliant. He initially refused to exit the truck. Long refused to consent to all field sobriety testing and refused a PBT. He was transported to the law center where he refused to provide a breath specimen for chemical testing.
Long was released from the Union County Jail after posting 10% of a $2,000 cash or surety bond.
