A Creston man is dead after wrecking a motorcycle during a high-speed pursuit in Union County.

According to an Iowa State Patrol Initial Crash Report, Tony D. Fizer, 55, was fatally injured Sunday after wrecking a 2022 Harley Davidson Street Glide Special while attempting to elude law enforcement.

At approximately 1:13 p.m., Creston Police attempted to stop the Harley for traveling above the posted speed limit. Radio traffic during the incident identified the driver as Fizer and stated the motorcycle was traveling in excess of 70 mph in a 55 mph zone.

Fizer did not stop and continued eastbound on Highway 34, reaching speeds above 100 mph. Approximately one mile east of Afton, while traversing a curve near mile marker 94, Fizer lost control of the Harley and went onto the shoulder of the road. The Harley overturned, throwing Fizer into the south ditch where he and the motorcycle came to rest.

Fizer died from injuries sustained in the crash. He was transported by EMS to Greater Regional Health in Creston.

Iowa State Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Union County Sheriff’s Office and Greater Regional Health.
