Creston Police: May interaction with police leads to drug charges for Creston man

Nathan L. Novotny, 20, of Creston, was taken into custody 4:24 p.m. Aug. 4, at the Union County Law Enforcement Center on a Union County warrant for the charges of failure to affix tax stamp and a controlled substance violation.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 8:23 p.m. May 26, a reckless driver was reported. A 2021 Dodge Charger with tinted windows, which matched the description given, was located in the 900 block of North Sumner Avenue.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Novotny, had a suspended drivers license. During the interaction with police, Novotny produced a bag with 14 white pills with no prescription or pill bottle.

The pills were sent to the state laboratory. The lab found them to be positive as alprazolam, a schedule IV controlled substance. No tax stamp, which is required for 10 or more dosing units of drugs in pill form, was affixed to the pills.

Novotny was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from after posting $7,000 cash or surety bond.
