Creston Police: Traffic stop results in drug charges

Douglas M. Sheldon, 41, of Lenox, was taken into custody 7:53 p.m., July 21, at the Union County Law Enforcement Center on the charges of possession of a controlled substance - marijuana, first offense and possession of drug paraphernalia

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 7:21 p.m. a 2014 Jeep Cherokee was observed at Adams Street and Sumner Avenue traveling above the 25 mph speed limit and failing to stop at a traffic control device. A traffic stop was initiated and contact was made with the driver, identified as Sheldon. The odor of marijuana was detected and Sheldon admitted to there being a marijuana grinder in the Jeep.

A probable cause search was conducted and produced a small amount of a green leafy substance consistent with marijuana and other items used to hold marijuana.

Sheldon was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from after posting $1,300 cash or surety bond.
