Excessive gravel dust leading to poor visibility was cited as a contributing factor in a Wednesday night accident in Union County.
According to a Union County Sheriff’s Office report, at approximately 7:55 p.m. a 2020 Chevrolet Traverse, driven by Stacy Tucker, 38, of Lorimor, was westbound on 190th Street at the same time a 2007 Ford Fusion, driven by Jensen Waigand, 16, of Afton, was eastbound on the street.
When the two vehicles went to pass by each other, the Fusion was over too far in the lane and struck the Traverse’s driver’s side. Waigand told deputies he felt he was too close to the center of the road and had difficulty seeing due to poor visibility caused by excessive gravel dust.
Damage to the Traverse was estimated at $3,000 and damage to the Fusion was estimated at $2,000.
