Accident: Failure to yield causes two-vehicle accident

Two people were transported by ambulance following a two-vehicle accident Saturday morning in Creston.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 11:08 a.m. a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by Aleah M. Calvin, 21, of Creston, was southbound on Poplar Street. At the same time, a 2024 Volkswagen Jetta, driven by William P. Hillman, 71, of Shenandoah, was westbound on Monroe Street.

As the Jeep approached the intersection, Calvin looked but did not see the Volkswagen. The Jeep proceeded into the intersection, failed to yield at the posted yield sign, and struck the Volkswagen.

Calvin was cited for failure to obey the yield sign and right of way.

Hillman and a passenger in the Volkswagen were transported by ambulance to Greater Regional Health for suspected minor injuries. Calvin was checked and released by medics at the scene.

Damage to the Jeep was estimated at $6,000 and damage to the Volkswagen was estimated at $5,000.
