Margaret N. Siegwarth, 42, of Creston, was taken into custody May 20, on two Union County warrants for the charges of accessory after the fact, false information for a citation and interference with official acts.
According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 11:08 p.m. Dec. 21, a vehicle registered to Siegwarth fled from law enforcement and successfully got away. Due to being the registered owner of the car, on Dec. 22, Siegwarth was questioned by officers at her residence.
Siegwarth provided a written statement with information about a specific male taking the vehicle. This statement caused law enforcement to file warrants against the male subject. Further investigation deemed the information given by Siegwarth to be false.
Siegwarth was again questioned and provided a different account of the story, which was accurate and corroborated by others involved. She provided a second written statement with the correct information including how she lied to officers initially.
The incident making her an accessory after the fact involved multiple felony-level crimes including narcotics and weapons charges. The suspect of these crimes has been taken into custody.
Siegwarth was not charged at the time due to agreeing to work with law enforcement. After failing to do so, charges were then filed.
Siegwarth was transported to the Adams County Jail and held on $3,300 cash or surety bond.
