Creston Police: Nearly $30,000 in diesel stolen from Creston Cenex station.

Diubel J. Nunez Herrera, 38, of Shawnee, Kansas, was taken into custody 8:37 p.m. May 12, in the 100 block of West Taylor Street on the charges of theft, first degree and ongoing criminal conduct - unlawful activity.

According to a Creston Police report, the Cenex gas station on Osage Street reported the theft of more than 9,000 gallons of diesel fuel between April 29 and May 11. The station was able to provide footage showing a male, identified as Nunez Herrera, driving a 2008 Ford 650 on 11 different occasions, getting fuel from the same gas pump. Each time he pumped gas for approximately one hour and took between 350 and 1,600 gallons of fuel.

The total value of the fuel taken was $29,275.

Nunez Herrera was using a device previously installed inside the pump to bypass the payment options.

Nunez Herrera was transported to the Union County Jail and held on $35,000 cash-only bond.
