A Guatemalan national, believed to be in the United States illegally, was taken into custody May 1 at his residence on felony sex abuse charges by the Stuart Police Department.

Wilson Erwin Everildo Choc Cuc, 20, of Stuart, was charged with second degree sex abuse, a Class B felony, and providing false identification information to law enforcement, a simple misdemeanor. The charges stem from an April incident.

According to a Stuart Police report, on April 29 police were contacted by the concerned parents of an 11-year-old female. According to the parents, the child had snuck out of the home and had been hanging out with an older man, later identified as Choc Cuc, who the parents were concerned had potentially had sexual contact with the child.

When contact was made with Choc Cuc, he was asked to write out his name and date of birth. Choc Cuc initially provided police with a date of birth which made him 16 years old. Police believe this was intentional as to not raise red flags for having contact with a minor.

The child was taken to the STAR Center by her parents for examination the following day. The report provided by STAR to Stuart Police explained signs of penetration and secretions found during the exam. The victim also made statements indicating Choc Cuc had touched her and had intercourse with her.

Choc Cuc waived his right to remain silent after being taken into custody and admitted to having intercourse with the victim at his residence April 28. As part of the post-arrest interview, Choc Cuc was asked to confirm his name and age, at which time he provided an ID which showed him to be 20 years old.

Choc Cuc is being held in the Adair County Jail on $100,000 cash only bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. May 22, in Adair County District Court.
