Michael J. Cooley, 19, of Afton, was taken into custody 7:30 p.m. April 24, in the 500 block of North Taylor Street on a Union County warrant for the charge of violation of a no contact/protective order - contempt. He was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance - marijuana, first offense.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 6:38 p.m. March 31, after he was released from the Union County Jail and served a no contact order that prohibited him from being on a property in the 500 block of South Mulberry Street, Cooley was told he could go the residence with a police escort to retrieve anything of his. Cooley left the jail and went to the residence alone. Cooley admitted to this during a phone call with officers April 2.

After being taken into custody, Cooley was searched and a THC pen was found on his person. The pen field-tested positive for marijuana.

Cooley was transported to the Union County Jail and held without bond on the warrant until his initial appearance and $1,000 cash or surety bond on the new charge.
