Creston Police report - March 2, 2025

Lucas L. Smith, 20, of Creston, was taken into custody 6:22 p.m. Feb. 27, at his residence on the charge of harassment, second degree.

According to a Creston Police report, Smith made a statement to another adult male indicating he had a firearm and to go the other way while both men were in public on Jefferson Street. The victim told officers he felt threatened by Smith’s statement to him.

Smith was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from on his own recognizance after being seen by the magistrate.

David Cortez Valenzuela, 26, of Lenox, was taken into custody 8:55 p.m. Feb. 27, at the Union County Law Enforcement Center on a Union County warrant for the charge of failure to appear on the original charge of violation of probation.

According to a Union County District Court document, Cortez Valenzuela was ordered to appear in court Feb. 5 on the original charge and did not.

Cortez Valenzuela was transported to the Union County Jail and held without bond until his initial district court appearance.

Brandon J. Stone, 31, of Creston, was taken into custody 12:25 a.m. Feb. 28, at the Union County Law Enforcement Center on the charge of OWI, first offense.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 7:01 p.m. a 2008 Ford Fusion was stopped on Jarvis Street after being reported for suspicious activity and possible driver intoxication. Officers also observed the Fusion to have a broken taillight.

Contact was made with the driver, identified as Stone, who was sweating profusely, had bloodshot, watery eyes, slurred speech and exaggerated movements. Stone admitted to using methamphetamine approximately 30 minutes prior to being stopped.

Stone consented to field sobriety testing and showed clues of impairment. A DRE evaluation was conducted and clues of impairment were also shown during the evaluation.

A probable cause search of the vehicle produced drug paraphernalia including marijuana pipes and containers with residue.

Stone refused to consent to chemical testing.

Stone was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from after posting $1,000 cash or surety bond.
