Creston Police report - June 12, 2024

John J. Scarpello, 18, of Creston, was taken into custody 7:32 p.m. June 11, at his residence on the charge of violation of no contact/protective order.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 6:23 p.m. Scarpello entered a business where a juvenile protected party of a no contact order against Scarpello was working. The active no contact order states Scarpello is not to be in the immediate vicinity of the residence or place of employment of the protected party.

The victim was able to show a picture she took that day of Scarpello at her place of employment while she was working. Scarpello told officers he was at Hy-vee shopping.

Scarpello was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from on his own recognizance after being seen by the magistrate.

Jordyn M. Gonzales, 20, of Creston, was taken into custody 8:20 p.m. June 11, at the Creston Union County Law Enforcement Center on two Union County warrants for the charge of failure to appear on the original charges of OWI, first offense and five counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

According to Union County District Court documents, Gonzales was ordered to appear for initial appearances after promise to appear on the original charges and did not.

She was transported to the Union County Jail where she was released from after posting $2,200 cash or surety bond.

Melody A. Miller, 58, of Creston, was taken into custody 1:03 a.m. June 12, at Howard and Spruce streets on the charge of OWI, first offense.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 12:25 a.m., a 2003 Hummer H3 was observed making a wide turn west on to Howard Street from Spruce Street. The Hummer did not signal and drove in the wrong lane of traffic for half of a block. The Hummer also nearly came to a complete stop as it approached the intersection.

A traffic stop was conducted and contact was made with the driver, identified as Miller, who had blood shot, watery eyes, slurred speech, impaired balance and a stronf odor of a consumed alcoholic beverage on her breath. Miller admitted to drinking several beers at a local bar. She consented to one field sobriety test and showed validated clues of impairment. Miller was unable to do other tests and a PBT due to medical issues.

She was transported to the law enforcement center, where she consented to provide a sample of her urine for chemical testing.

She was released from the Union County Jail after posting $1,000 cash or surety bond.
