Creston Police report - March 18, 2024

Samantha J. Gile-Smith, 33, of Creston, was taken into custody 12:30 a.m. March 15 at the Union County Law Enforcement Center on the charge of OWI, first offense.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 11:15 p.m. March 14 officers stopped a vehicle for an unlisted vehicle defect offense. Contact was made with the driver, identified as Gile-Smith, who showed signs of impairment. Gile-Smith consented to field sobriety testing and ARIDE testing, which indicated clues of impairment. She admitted to smoking marijuana prior to being stopped.

Gile-Smith was transported to the Union County Law Enforcement Center where she refused consent for chemical testing.

She was transported to the Union County Jail where she was released from after posting $1,000 cash or surety bond.

John L. Willis, 36, of Creston, was taken into custody 8:15 p.m. March 15 at his residence on the charge of domestic abuse assault, first offense.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 7:47 p.m. officers responded to a reported verbal argument between occupants of a residence on the 200 block of North Division Street. A female at the residence stated Willis had threatened to physically assault both she and her husband, which placed both parties in fear of an imminent assault.

Willis is related to both parties and lives in the residence with them. The victims stated Willis has physically assaulted them in the past.

Willis was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from on his own recognizance on a promise to appear after being seen by the magistrate.

Calvin Cerda, 20, of Lenox, was taken into custody 11:49 p.m. March 16 at the Union County Law Enforcement Center on the charges of driving while suspended; OWI, first offense; possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver - cocaine, first offense; possession of drug paraphernalia; possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver - marijuana, first offense.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 11 p.m. officers stopped a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado at Adams and Spruce streets for traveling 33 mph in a 20 mph zone. Contact was made with the driver, identified as Cerda, and the odor of marijuana was detected coming from the vehicle. Cerda denied having any marijuana in the vehicle but did say he smoked a joint approximately two hours prior to being stopped.

A probable cause search of the truck was conducted and a backpack, located in the backseat of the truck containing a jar of THC wax, seven small silicone containers with THC wax, two small baggies, weighing 1.36 grams and 1.16 grams of a white powder, which later field tested positive for cocaine, marijuana packaging items and $336 in cash was found.

Cerda refused all testing and refused to provide a urine sample for chemical testing.

Cerda was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from after posting $16,600 cash or surety bond.

Brooke L. McGehee, 26, of Creston, was taken into custody 3:04 a.m. March 17 at the Union County Law Enforcement Center on the charge of OWI, first offense.

No information was available on the arrest.

McGehee was transported to the Union County Jail where she was released from after posting $1,000 cash or surety bond.
