Austin Benge, 25, of Greenfield, was taken into custody 5:45 p.m. Feb. 6 in the 200 block of NW Grant Street on the charge of driving while barred and was cited for the charge of new title/registration transfer violation.

According to an Adair County report, at approximately 5:21 p.m., deputies observed a 1998 Oldsmobile Bravada at the intersection of SW Kent and SW 2nd streets, driven by Benge, who was not wearing a seatbelt. Deputies recognized the vehicle as the same vehicle Benge was driving during a traffic stop in November 2023, and was still not registered and had no license plates affixed.

A traffic stop was conducted and contact was made with Benge who provided an Iowa driver’s license. The information on the license was ran and it was discovered Benge was barred. It was confirmed Benge had not transferred the title of the vehicle since acquiring it.

He was cited and released at the scene on a summons to appear and received written warnings for a seat belt violation, unlawful possession of a license and no insurance.
