Jerome McCallum, 46, of Kellerton, was taken into custody Dec. 23 at the Polk County Jail on three Union County warrants for the charges of: possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine, first offense and possession of drug paraphernalia; failure to appear on the original charges of dominion or control of a firearm/offensive weapon by a felon and possession of a short-barreled rifle or short barreled shotgun and fail to appear - felony or awaiting sentencing or appeal.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 9:35 p.m. June 24, McCallum was a passenger in vehicle stopped at Cherry and Townline for a traffic violation. During the traffic stop, Creston Police Department K-9 “Baxo” was deployed and gave a positive alert to the vehicle. McCallum admitted to having a methamphetamine pipe around the front passenger seat in the vehicle.

A probable cause search was conducted and officers located a glass pipe with a crystalline substance, consistent with methamphetamine, in the pipe. The pipe was seized and sent to the Iowa DCI Crime Lab which indicated the substance was positive for methamphetamine. McCallum admitted to officers the pipe was his.

According to a Union County District Court document, McCallum was to appear in court Aug. 18 for sentencing on his original charges, including a plea agreement in which he entered a guilty plea to the charge of dominion or control of an offensive weapon by a felon, but did not appear.

McCallum was transported to the Union County Jail and held on $1,000 cash or surety bond for charges filed by Creston Police and $5,000 cash only bond on the district court warrant.
