A parked car was hit Friday in a driveway in Afton by an unaware driver.

According to a Union County report, at approximately 3:14 p.m. Nov. 27, the owner of a 2012 Lexus RX350 reported at approximately 4 p.m. Nov. 24, the Lexus was hit while parked at a residence on Filmore Street.

The owner of the SUV told deputies she was attending a family event when her vehicle was side-swiped by a 2001 Dodge Dakota, driven by Gary E. Clear, 74, of Afton, while it was backing out of the driveway. Clear was also attending the event but left approximately one hour earlier.

According to the Lexus owner, Clear left without telling anyone he had hit the Lexus. A broken tail-light cover was found at the scene by the owner of the Lexus.

Deputies called Clear, who said he was unaware he had hit the Lexus until after he had left. He admitted to having a broken tail-light cover and stated he was the one who side-swiped the SUV. Clear willingly provided all of his information to deputies.

Damage to the Lexus was estimated at $3,000 and damage to the Dodge was estimated at $200.
