David J. Richman, 42, of Creston, was taken into custody 6:05 p.m. Aug. 30, on the charge of domestic abuse assault, second offense and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 5:43 p.m. a third party reported a fight between a male and female in the Methodist church parking lot. A witness stated the male, identified as Richman, hit the female victim in the face. While speaking with officers, the victim said Richman had hit her twice in the face. Richman denied hitting the victim and said the fight was only verbal but did say he “redirected” the victim at one point.

After being taken to the Law Enforcement Center, Richman told officers he had a marijuana pipe on him. The pipe was located and seized by officers.

Richman was transported to the Union County Jail and held without bond until seen by the judge.

Jeffrey Hoffman, 35, of Shannon City, was taken into custody 3 p.m. Aug. 31 in the 500 block of West Spencer Street on a Union County warrant for the charge of violation of probation.

According to an Iowa Department of Correctional Services report, on March 20, 2020, Hoffman was convicted of Burglary, third degree and sentenced to five years in prison. The sentence was suspended and Hoffman was ordered to serve three years of probation.

Hoffman has violated the terms of his probation by failing to attend outpatient treatment as recommended, testing positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine use, missing multiple scheduled probation appointments and failure to obtain a mental health evaluation. Hoffman has made little effort to find or maintain employment and has made no payments toward his court ordered financial obligations or probationary fees.

Hoffman was transported to the Union County Jail and held without bond until his initial appearance.
