Julio Cesar Villalpando Castro, 43, of Creston, was taken into custody 6:44 p.m. May 18 at the Union County Law Enforcement Center on a Union County warrant for the charge of burglary, third degree.

According to a Creston Police report at approximately 8:30 a.m. May 16 officers responded to the 100 block of Manor Drive for a reported burglary. When they arrived on scene, they observed a window screen of building 114 bent and pulled off the window. The resident of the apartment told officers no one had permission to be in the apartment. The manager of the apartment complex attempted to use a master key to make entry into the unit but the key would not work. The manager was able to make entry by climbing through a window and unlocking the door from the inside.

According to the manager the deadbolt lock was not the original lock installed on the door. Officers located a dead bolt box purchased from Walmart containing the original lock installed on the door with the purchase receipt under the box. The apartment resident reported at least 50 DVD’s, various hygiene products and food were missing from the apartment. Items not belonging there including an air mattress, blanket, two pillows and a bag of men’s clothing were found inside of the apartment.

Officers took the new deadbolt receipt to Walmart and observed video footage of the purchase by a male, identified by officers as Villalpando Castro. The apartment resident also named Villalpando Castro as a possible suspect and said Villalpando Castro constantly asks to stay there and told no.

Villalpando Castro was transported to the Union County Jail and held on $5,000 cash or surety bond.
