Adam E. Austin, 26, of Creston, was taken into custody at 7:17 p.m., April 10 at Mario’s Bar and Grill on the charge of public intoxication.
According to a Creston Police report, officers were dispatched to Mario’s for an intoxicated male causing problems. Upon arrival, the male, identified as Austin, was observed outside the business.
Officers detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Austin, slurred speech and lack of balance. When asked what he was doing, Austin said he guessed he was causing issues at the business. While officers directed him away from the front of the building, Austin said he was intoxicated and walked into a parked car.
The manager said Austin came to the bar to fight an employee, but that person was not there. Employees said Austin was calling a waitress derogatory names, told a customer they couldn’t sit at the bar and threatened to fight a customer. Employees called someone to come pick Austin up, but officers were called when Austin left the establishment and tried to get in his car and leave.
Due to statements Austin made about fleeing to avoid jail, officers placed him under arrest.
Austin was transported to the Union County Law Enforcement Center where he is being held on a $300 cash or surety bond.
