Charles R. Balius, 52, of Creston, was taken into custody 11:08 a.m. Jan. 26 on the charge of driving while license denied or revoked.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 10:46 a.m. officers stopped a Buick LaCrosse for an equipment violation on Highway 25. Officer’s made contact with the driver, identified as Balius, who told them he did not have a license. Officer’s ran his information and confirmed his license status to be revoked in Iowa.

Balius was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from after posting $1,000 cash or surety bond.

Hannah J. Darland, 22, of Creston, was taken into custody 5:55 p.m. Jan. 26 on the charge of assault.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 1:30 a.m. Jan. 8, Darland assaulted a male victim at The Lobby. Security videos in the bar show Darland and the male in a verbal argument when Darland walked toward the male and shoved him with both hands. The two were separated for a short time until Darland went back to the male and punched him in the face, causing his lip to bleed. The victim confirmed to officers Darland was the female seen in the video.

Darland was transported to the Union County Jail where she was cited and released on a promise to appear.

Mindy J. Darland, 45, of Creston, was taken into custody 8:55 p.m. Jan. 26 on the charge of tampering with a witness.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 7:59 p.m. Darland sent a harassing Facebook message to the victim of an assault her daughter had just been charged with, telling him to drop charges against her daughter. In the message Darland reportedly called the victim several names and said “you deserve what you get.” Police say Darland was aware the victim she messaged was involved in an active case and tried to influence his decision in the case with the message.

Darland was transported to the Union County Jail where she was released from after posting $2,000 cash or surety bond.
