Rodrigo Sanchez, 19, of San Antonio, Texas, was taken into custody 2:03 a.m. Jan. 14 on the charges of OWI, first offense and no valid driver’s license.
According to an Union County report, at approximately 1 a.m. deputies stopped a 2015 Jaguar XF at Elm Street and Highway 34 in Creston. Contact was made with the driver, identified as Sanchez, who was found to have no valid driver’s license. While speaking with Sanchez, the odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected coming from Sanchez. Sanchez made statements to the deputy about drinking prior to the traffic stop. He consented to and failed field sobriety testing and PBT results indicated a BAC of above .08%. Sanchez was transported to the Union County Law Enforcement Center where he consented to provide a breath specimen for chemical testing. The result of the test indicated a BAC of .091%.
Sanchez was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from after posting $1,000 cash or surety bond.

Kyle Schmitz, 27, of Afton, was taken into custody 2:12 a.m. Jan. 15 on the charge of OWI, second offense.
According to an Union County report, deputies observed a red Dodge Ram westbound on Highway 34 weaving in and out of its lane and speeding. The truck was stopped and contact was made with the driver, identified as Schmitz. Schmitz was observed to have bloodshot, watery eyes and a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. Schmitz consented to some field sobriety testing which showed clues of impairment. A PBT given to Schmitz indicated a BAC of above.08%. Schmitz was transported to the Union County Law Enforcement Center where he consented to provide a breath specimen for chemical testing. The result of the test indicated a BAC of .199%. Schmitz had a prior OWI conviction in 2019.
Schmitz was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from after posting $2,000 cash or surety bond.
