Wendi Wright, 41, of Stuart, was taken into custody 12:50 p.m. Nov. 20 by Stuart Police Department on an Adair County warrant for the charge of failure to appear on the original charges of possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine, first offense and possession of a controlled substance - marijuana, first offense.

According to Adair County District Court documents, Wright was ordered to appear before the court on Nov. 9 for the above charges and did not appear.

Wright was transported to Adair County Jail where she was released from after posting $1,000 cash or surety bond.

John Barker II, 44, of Des Moines, was taken into custody 1:09 a.m. Nov. 21 on Interstate 80 for the charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine, first offense and driving while revoked.

According to a Stuart Police report, officers observed a Hyundai Sonata leaving Casey’s General Store. The registration of the vehicle showed the registered owner, John Barker II, to possess a revoked license for an OWI test failure. Officers identified the driver to be Barker and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. While being taken into custody for driving while revoked, a search of Barker resulted in a small plastic tube containing marijuana being located.

A probable cause search was then done of the vehicle. More marijuana was located which Barker had told officers about prior to the search. While searching a backpack located in the front passenger seat, officers found a glass pipe with a burnt white residue and a container of a white crystalline substance, believed to be methamphetamine.

Barker was transported to Adair County Jail where he was released from after posting $1,000 cash or surety bond.

Michael Lantz, 36, of Arthur, was taken into custody 5:37 p.m. Nov. 21 in Stuart on the charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine, first offense and three Ida County warrants for the charges of violation of probation on the original charge of stalking - violation of a protective order, violation of probation on the original charge of stalking - violation of a no contact order and two counts of contempt - violation of no contact/protective order.

According to an Adair County report, a Nissan Xterra with expired registration was observed by deputies pulling into Kum & Go in Stuart. A traffic stop was initiated and contact was made with the driver, who was unable to provide a valid insurance card or registration for the vehicle. The driver, identified as Lantz, was found to have multiple arrest warrants from Ida County and was detained pending confirmation of those.

A open air sniff of the exterior of the vehicle was conducted by a Stuart Police Department K9 , who alerted to the odor of narcotics coming from inside the vehicle. A probable cause search was conducted and resulted in a glass methamphetamine pipe containing residue, a plastic straw used for consuming narcotics nasally and a clear plastic baggie containing approximately three grams of methamphetamine being seized. All items were located inside of a black case found in the center console of the vehicle.

Lantz was transported to the Adair County Jail and held on $1,000 cash or surety bond for Adair County charges, $10,000 bond on two Ida County warrants and without bond on a third Ida County warrant.

Douglas Dawson, 37, of Stuart, was taken into custody 11:01 p.m. Nov. 22 on a Dallas County warrant.

Dawson was immediately transported and released to the custody of Dallas County.

Michael Huss Jr., 42, of Dexter, was taken into custody 12:38 p.m. Nov. 23 on an Adair County warrant for the charge of violation of probation.

According to a Judicial District Department of Correctional Services violation report submitted Aug. 2, Huss was placed on probation May 13 for one year with conditions of reporting to probation and paying all fines and costs. At the time the violation report was submitted, Huss was known to be in the community but had not reported to probation to establish intake and supervision. Attempts to reach Huss via phone, email and letters all failed.

Huss was transported to the Adair County Jail where he was released from after posting $2,000 cash or surety bond.

James Lyman, 36, of Greenfield, was taken into custody 11 a.m. Nov. 24 in Greenfield on the following active arrest warrants:

Department of Corrections warrant for the charge of violation of parole; Polk County warrant for the charges of possession of a controlled substance, second offense and driving while barred - habitual offender; seven Adair County warrants for the charges of 1. eluding while participating in a felony, involving injury, OWI or drugs, second or subsequent offense, possession of a controlled substance, third or subsequent offense, driving while barred and operating a vehicle without owners consent; 2. interference with official acts; 3. possession of drug paraphernalia; 4. reckless driving; 5. leaving the scene of an accident - property damage only; 6. failure to maintain control and 7. fail to obey stop sign and yield right of way.

Lyman was additionally charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, interference with official acts, assault on persons in certain occupations and trespass, first offense.

According to an Adair County report, on Oct. 1 a deputy observed a GMC Sierra truck, known to be operated by Lyman, who had a barred license, southwest of Stuart. When the deputy pulled out behind the truck, it accelerated to a high rate of speed, traveling approximately 60 mph in a 25 mph zone. The deputy activated emergency lights and siren to initiate a traffic stop on the truck but it failed to stop and continued westbound to Trenton Avenue where it attempted to turn left but was unable to due to the high rate of speed.

The driver, later verified as Lyman, lost control of the truck, entered the west ditch, continued through a barbed wire fence into a field where it crashed into a deep waterway. Lyman exited the vehicle and was observed running into a harvested corn field on the other side of the waterway. Lyman was ordered to stop but he did not. Law enforcement conducted a search of the area in attempt to locate Lyman which was unsuccessful.

A tow service recovered the truck and a Stuart Police Department K9 gave a positive alert during an open air sniff of the vehicle. A probable cause search was conducted. Lyman’s wallet containing his ID and other cards were located in the vehicle. Located in the same area as the wallet, a baggie containing methamphetamine, a glass methamphetamine pipe, hypodermic syringe and a black scale were found.

The registered owner of the vehicle told law enforcement Lyman did not have permission to drive the vehicle.

At approximately 10:05 a.m. Nov. 24, deputies observed Lyman walking in the 200 block of SE 5th Street in Greenfield. When Lyman saw law enforcement coming toward him, he ran. He was located inside of a garage on the 400 block of SE Jackson Street and deputies deployed a taser device to get Lyman’s compliance when he attempted to run again. After the taser was deployed Lyman threw a cell phone at law enforcement and kept running. He was taken into custody on the front porch of a residence on the 300 block of SE Jackson Street.

While searching Lyman incident to arrest, a broken glass pipe used to smoke methamphetamine was located in his pants pocket and three syringes were found inside his coat pocket.

Lyman was transported to Adair County Jail where he is being held without bond on the Department of Corrections and Polk County warrants, $15,000 cash or surety bond on Adair County warrants and $1,000 cash or surety on Nov. 24 Adair County charges.
