Thomas Reeves, 53, of Ames, was taken into custody 2:49 p.m. Nov. 16 in Ames on an Adair County warrant for the charges of OWI, first offense and possession of a controlled substance - marijuana, first offense.
According to an Adair County report, at approximately 4:04 p.m. Nov. 14, 2016, Iowa State Patrol responded to a one-vehicle rollover accident on Interstate 80 near mile marker 76. It was determined a 1995 Toyota 4-Runner, driven by Reeves, left the roadway before taking evasive action and crossing back across traffic. The vehicle then entered the median causing it to overturn coming to rest on its side.
While picking up debris from around the vehicle, three containers containing a green leafy substance, a syringe, a brown vile containing a liquid, multiple gift debit cards, silver pipe and a black LG cell phone were found.
While speaking with Reeves in the ambulance, he told the trooper the syringes were for injecting heroin, but he had not taken any heroin since the previous morning. Reeves was transported to a local hospital where law enforcement again spoke with him and requested a urine sample which Reeves consented to provide.
The sample was collected, assisted by a nurse, prior to any medicine being given to Reeves through his IV. Reeves was transferred to a Des Moines Hospital for further treatment. A request for a warrant was filed by Iowa State patrol on May 9, 2017, and was granted May 11, 2017.
Reeves was released from custody after posting $1,000 cash or surety bond.

Chelsey M. Madison, 27, of Creston, was taken into custody 3:28 a.m. Nov. 17 on South Division Street in Stuart on the charges of possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine, first offense and possession of a controlled substance - marijuana, first offense.
According to a Stuart Police report, at approximately 12:49 a.m. officers stopped a 2000 Buick Century for no license plate lamps and for failure to wear a seat belt. When contact was made with the driver, identified as Madison, officers detected the odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle.
Madison told officers she possessed a medical marijuana card and there was marijuana in the vehicle but it did not contain THC. Officers field tested the marijuana which indicated the presence of THC. A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted.
Officers located two pipes commonly used to smoke methamphetamine and a small baggie containing a white crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine in property Madison identified as hers. A Rugar .380 pistol was also located in Madison’s purse.
Madison was transported to the Adair County Jail where she was released from after posting $1,000 cash or surety bond.

Valen McKown, 24, of Creston, was taken into custody 2:31 a.m. Nov. 18 on Highway 25 in Orient on the charge of OWI, first offense.
According to an Adair County report, at approximately 1:22 a.m. a deputy initiated a traffic stop near Division and School streets on Highway 25 on a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche for having a headlight out. Before initiating flashing lights, deputies observed the vehicle drive onto the center yellow line twice.
Once the vehicle was stopped, contact was made with the driver, identified as McKown who had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from her person. When asked how much she had had to drink, McKown admitted to having at least a glass of liquor and a beer or two. McKown refused PBT testing at the scene and was transported to the Adair County Sheriff’s Office where she consented to provide a breath specimen for testing in the Datamaster. The result of the test indicated a BAC of .118%.
McKnown was cited and released from the Adair County Sheriff’s Office on a summons to appear.

Junior R. Hicks, 30, of Fontanelle, was taken into custody 6:33 p.m. Nov. 18 at Adair County Sheriff’s Office on the charge of harassment, third degree.
According to a Greenfield Police report, at approximately 2 p.m. Nov. 4, Hicks entered Fareway Grocery Store in Greenfield and made comments to a female in the store which made her feel threatened. According to the female victim, the confrontation stems from a dog bite incident earlier in the year.
Hicks was cited and released from the Adair County Sheriff’s Office on a summons to appear.
