Mandi Stowers, 47, of Creston, was taken into custody Sept. 23 on a Union County warrant for failure to appear on the original charge of theft, second degree.

According to Union County District Court documents, Stowers was scheduled to appear in court Sept. 23 and did not appear as ordered. The bond of $1,000 previously posted was revoked by the court.

Stowers was transported to Adams County Jail where she was being held on $5,000 cash only bond.

Damien Beard, 19, of Afton, was taken into custody Sept. 24 on the charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to an Union County Sheriff’s report, Beard was an occupant of a vehicle in which a THC vape pen was found and Beard claimed ownership of the item.

Beard was cited and released from the scene on a summons to appear.

Mathew Scherer, 40, of Creston, was taken into custody 12:16 a.m. Sept. 24 on the 100 block of North Elm Street on the charges of OWI second offense, interference with official acts and public intoxication.

According to an Union County Sheriff’s report, at approximately 12:15 a.m. Saturday, law enforcement was on foot in the area assisting the Creston Police Department on a domestic assault call when a tan Dodge Ram pickup entered the area and while attempting to park, ran over the curb. When a deputy attempted to make contact with the driver, later identified as Scherer, he attempted to elude him by running from the deputy and ignoring verbal commands to stop. Scherer was taken into custody a short time later. He made statements about drinking and being intoxicated. He refused field sobriety testing.

Scherer was transported to Union County Jail where he was released from after posting $2,600 surety bond.
