Gunner Holtry, 23, of Winterset, was taken into custody 9:44 p.m. Aug. 23 during a traffic stop on Highway 169 North, near 110th Street on the charges of possession of paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance third or subsequent offense.
According to a Union County Sheriff’s report, deputies stopped a red Ford Ranger for an equipment violation, driven by Holtry. The strong odor of marijuana was detected and a probable cause search was conducted. During the search two baggies of marijuana were located in the vehicle, one under the passenger seat and one under the driver’s seat and a pipe with a substance consistent with marijuana was found under the driver’s seat. Holtry had prior convictions for possession of a controlled substance and did admit to deputies of smoking marijuana.
Holtry was transported to Union County Jail where he was later released from after posting $5,300 cash or surety bond.

Kayla R. Brown, 23, of Des Moines, was taken into custody 9:44 p.m. Aug. 23 on Highway 169 North, near 110th Street on the charges of possession of a controlled substance - marijuana, third or subsequent offense and providing false identification information.
According to an Union County Sheriff’s report Brown, a passenger in a vehicle stopped for an equipment violation, was asked if she had a drivers license and said no. When asked for her name, she advised deputies of a different name and spelled it out. It was later determined she had provided a fake name and she admitted to law enforcement that she did so because she had an active arrest warrant. Due to a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, a probable cause search was conducted. Two baggies of marijuana were located in the vehicle, one under the passenger seat and one under the driver’s seat and a pipe with a substance consistent with marijuana was found under the driver’s seat. Brown had prior convictions for possession of a controlled substance and did admit to deputies of smoking marijuana.
Brown was transported to Adams County Jail where she was released from after posting $5,300 cash or surety bond.

Samantha Wright, 36, of Creston, was taken into custody Aug. 24 on a Union County warrant for the charge of theft second degree.
According to an Union County Sheriff’s report, on May 26 Wright borrowed a home-made flatbed trailer from an individual with the promise to return the trailer to the owner the following day. The owner made multiple attempts at contact to retrieve property, spanning several months. Wright eventually stopped responding to the owners requests to have property returned to them.
Wright was transported to Adams County Jail and held on $5,000 cash or surety bond.
